*UPDATE Food is still good and delivery time is as well. However, we cannot seem to get them to read notes. Requested: No chicken. Add string beans please. Thanks! Please send packets of Chinese hot mustard and chopsticks.
Received: Chicken with string beans, no broccoli and a side of Dijon mustard. What my note "packets of Chinese hot mustard" not clear? FRUSTATED, so lowering five star rating to three.
My favorite Chinese delivery in the neighborhood. Nice lunch portions. Spicy food is nice & spicy the way I like it. Fried rice is lighter than most and less oily.

DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE! I ORDERED STRING BEANS WITH YIBIN CITY SPICES FROM UNDER VEGETABLES THINKING IT WAS VEGETARIAN. However, they conveniently forgot to mention that there is minced pork in it! There is nothing they will do it about apart from saying that there is nothing thy can do!
In which world is PORK VEGETARIAN and why was it not mentioned under the description?

Yummy, love the fried rice. Meats are usually tender and tasty. Always on time! (Just great that we are just 2 streets away!)

Definitely one of the best Mapo Tofu in the city!
Especially lunch special is worth!!
Anyway it's sometimes really hot, if you are afraid
of hot taste, ask them to make less spicy!

One of the best Chinese food places in Midtown/Murray Hill. Szechuen is their specialty, but also very good job on their standard New York Chinese favorites. Best Chicken with Cashews I have had, and their Braised Brisket Beef with Noodles in Broth is just what's needed on a cold day. Delicious. Mapo Tofu is good as you expect, but you have to like the grease to like that dish anywhere. Delivery is also fast also.

Mei fun was very bland but veg trio more than made up for it with flavor - nicely spicy even for someone who likes it fiery! Scallion pancakes were awesome and delivery took half the estimated time

Best food around, sometimes the delivery is a little slow, maybe because its so good??
Posted 5 months ago by Alfred L.
Fast, delicious and taste authentic. Tasty, Spicy sauce! I would give it a five if the tofu wasn't so big. I expected smaller tofu pieces and not chunky, big ones. Other than that, great dish for vegans, vegetarians and those trying out tofu for the first time.

Delivery relatively prompt; but not very consistent in fulfilling the order correctly--can't eat white rice, orders brown, gets white.

Worst delivery ever

I order from this place from time to time. The food is always OK. I have to complain about the service today. I ordered my lunch around 12:30 pm. The order was confirmed several minutes after that. I waited for more than one hour and nothing happened, so I called and I was told that "the average delivery time is 60-75 minutes" and "the food is on the way". I tried to be nice considering that it is freezing outside and they must be very busy and said OK I will just wait. Then I waited for another hour and still nothing. So I called again and was told by the some person that she will place my order right away. On my first call I told the lady my cell number and address and it should be reasonable for me to assume that she checked the status of my order before telling me that my food is on the way and asking me to simply wait. That's just so impossible.

- The diet coke can I order did not was not included in the order.
- Delivery man demanded tip and claimed he received no tip even though I had tipped in Seamless

Very flavorful food. Delivery was late, but I guess the food is worth it.

Steamed veggies and veggie dumplings just the way I like them. Healthy and tasty dinner when working late.

Great food and very nice people.

Sadly, the dumplings and fried rice were inedible, the general tso chicken and singapore noodles were okay, though.

I usually order spicy tofu from this restaurant. The dish is spicy, authentic, but could be varied in taste. I guest different chef cooks in different days.

The food has always been exceptional when we have ordered out as well as when we have eaten in. They are always quick and consience to getting the lunch crowd taken care of, especially when eating in without ever feeling rushed. Great price for the amount of food you get!

Everything is really authentic and delicious. The wontons are superb and the Mapo Tofu is ridonkunlously spicy - as it should be. Lunch specials are really generous at a fair price and everything is super clean. Order from here! You won't regret it.

There is something wrong with their meat here, I ordered beef chow fun and the meat tasted really bad and it smells too (like it's sitting on the fridge more than 24 hours uncooked). I am positve it is not fresh as I always cook steak at home. I had to throw it out as I was scared to eat it and might get sick of it. This is an honest to goodness review.

Best "cheap" Chinese food in the area. Their scallion pancakes are sinfully good.

As a long time customer i would have, until today (9/3) always given Mapo Tofu a great review. However, without any notice the restaurant literally cut their portions in HALF, while the prices remain the same.
Obviously this is unacceptable, and we wont be ordering from them again in the future. Beware!

The delivery man arrived at our office, took snacks meant for the employees, was caught and told not to take them, yet still walked away with them. These people are thieves. Be warned.

Solid Chinese food(especially the Mapo Tofu, which you'd expect),and I've never had the hit or miss service that other users have experienced. Can be a bit spendy though.

Horrid food! STAY AWAY!!!
First they were late, didn't deliver the Rice and drink (had to wait 45mins more), didn't apologize!
Then finally got to eat and it was horrid greasy mess. E.g dumpling came as one solid clump in hot oil.
Chicken was dry and tasteless, don't forget I was starving by now...
I will NEVER go there again.

quick, fast deliver. one negative star because the hot chilly paper powder was not mixed enough inside the food.

This place can be a hit or miss. The Ma Paul tofu is AMAZING! The chicken and broc, beef and broc is bland. Their singapore rice noodle still has clumps of curry powder clinging to the noodles and is bland. The fish filet with mixed vegs is pretty good but since they dip the fish in batter and fry it first then sauteed so it tends to be a little soggy when you eat it back in the office. I got my food delivered today and the delivery guy asked if I was chinese. I said yes and then he said something in mandarin that i couldnt quite understand since i am cantonese so I just said "she she". I kept thinking about it because he had this weird look on his face when i said that. As I'm eating my lunch I realized that he said I tipped too little! 15% on delivery is too little??? I would've tipped more if it was severe weather but its a beautiful day and obviously not many people were ordering since he came in 25 mins. Absolutely appalled by this chinese delivery man! Makes me a little ashamed. The restaurant should give him a warning about being rude to customers!

My husband and I order from here whenever we're craving Chinese takeout. We usually get the mapo tofu (which is excellent) and a combination of other dishes. They've all been great, and you get a lot of food for your money. On top of that, the delivery is fast! If I had to write one complaint, I'd say that the sauces and vegetables in different dishes all seem pretty similar, so you kind of feel like the dishes all taste the same. But that "same" is good, so that makes it ok! I'd recommend this place for fast Chinese.

quick delivery, fresh, tasty dishes

This is, without questions, the best chinese food I've had in NYC (which already says a lot). Not to mention the price, which is absolutely incredible- the food has never ever let me or my girlfriend down.
We usually stick to General Tso's Tofu, the cold sesame noodles (which are a MUST if you order from here), the cold cucumber salad- all great.
Be careful with the tofu dishes though if you're a veggie- some of them have meat in them!

This is the only place I would even consider getting Chinese food in the East 30's, and I've been ordering from them for years. They're a little inconsistent, and I'd avoid the lunch rush, but the quality and freshness of their ingredients is unrivaled. I especially recommend the "silken tofu with green house chive" and the won ton soup. And I stay away from the shell fish dishes because the one time I ordered scallops there were itty bitty pieces of shell in my meal which I didn't like, although I guess that makes it 'authentic' Chinese. There are plenty of other 'authentic' options on their menu, if that's your thing. I avoided Chinese food when in Asia because I couldn't seem to order anything that didn't come with chicken feet :( I don't think that would be a problem at Mapo Tofu, but "duck tongue" still seems inhumane to me. BTW, they are totally willing to prepare their namesake dish without the pork.

The Mapo Tofu is super super spicy. When this restuarant lists anythign as being spicy, tkae their word for it, its very spicy. The Kung Pao tofu is delicious. The Crab Meat and Asparagus soup is very good and has a lot more crab chunks in it than your average restaurant.

My go to lunch Chinese place for delivery to work. The dishes are well prepared, better than average Sichuan Chinese place.
Posted 3 years ago by CJ C.
I've only ordered one thing: the ma po tofu. It is delicious, and sometimes the sichuan peppercorns are more pronounced than others, but it's consistently good. I work a few blocks away, and if I slap an extra buck on the tip they deliver in MINUTES.

Great food, but service is incredibly rude: I ordered pick-up and when I arrived, the cashier treated me as if I was there to steal food. Don't get me wrong, I'm used to rude service at Chinese restaurants, but this was just ridiculous!

On the food alone, I would rate the restaurant far higher than this. But when I attempted to call to find out why my delivery, estimated at 30-45 minutes, was already an hour late, I was cut off before I could finish the sentence and told it would be 5-10 more minutes. Not nearly an acceptable standard of service.

Very, very good food. As good as Wu Liang Ye which used to be at that location. For some strange reason they have a dish called Chicken with Spring Onions which is actually Kung Pao chicken, it even says it on the receipt. Unnecessarily misleading. Their pepper steak is terrific. Lunch specials are a ton of food too.

So far, the best Szechuan I've had in the neighborhood.

EXCELLENT. I have ordered from about every chinese place on this site, and this was the best thus far. I ordered chicken with string beans and had them add shrimp. The portion was enormous, hot, and extremely well made. Delivery was fast, the delivery man was nice. I will order again many times from here.
